Mastering Technology
Currently, the container manufacturing plant of Hòa Phát Group has a total capacity of 500,000 TEU/year (phase 1 with a capacity of 200,000 TEU/year), specializing in the production of popular container types from 20 - 40 feet (approximately 6.1 - 12.2m). With this scale, Hòa Phát is the largest container manufacturer in Vietnam and Southeast Asia.
Hòa Phát Group has a great advantage thanks to its ability to be self-sufficient in hot rolled coil (HRC) steel of SPA-H weather-resistant grade, produced at the Hòa Phát Dung Quất Iron and Steel Integrated Complex. A representative of Hòa Phát Group said that with an output of 500,000 TEU/year, container production will consume 1 million tons of HRC steel/year, which is a very good output for the Hòa Phát Dung Quất 2 Iron and Steel Integrated Complex. Accordingly, Hòa Phát aims to localize 90 - 95% of input materials by the end of 2025, thereby reducing costs and ensuring production stability. Domestic self-sufficiency in raw materials not only helps reduce costs but also enhances competitiveness and ensures sustainability in production.

Hòa Phát's container shells are designed, manufactured, and tested according to international standards, meeting technical requirements for intercontinental goods transportation. Each container produced is coded and labeled for management. All processes from raw materials, production, and product acceptance are strictly controlled by an advanced, highly automated quality management system. Research and development efforts are also promoted to optimize container components and keep up with global trends.
Recently, Hòa Phát Group continued to invest in the production of high-end flooring panels. In addition to serving the interior and construction industries, in its long-term strategy, Hòa Phát plans to allocate 20% of its flooring panel capacity to the container segment. Hòa Phát's flooring panels currently meet all technical criteria for container flooring according to international standards.
Increasing Orders
In August 2023, the first batch of 100 20-foot containers was released to the market by Hòa Phát after two years of production investment in Bà Rịa - Vũng Tàu province. Up to now, Hòa Phát's container shell products have become widely known and have received many orders from domestic and foreign enterprises.
Vietnamese-branded container shells have also been introduced by Hòa Phát to the global market at Intermodal Europe 2024, held in Rotterdam AHOY (Netherlands). This is the largest exhibition in the container and intermodal transport industry, bringing together more than 100 global logistics enterprises to showcase their products.
In 2024, Hòa Phát handed over 500 container shells to SeaCube Container Leasing. This is the first batch of newly built containers for SeaCube – one of the world’s leading container leasing companies. In July 2024, Hapag-Lloyd, the largest container shipping company in Germany and among the world’s top five, ordered 2,000 20-foot DC container shells from Hòa Phát. This batch is designed to the shipper’s standards, with reinforced chassis for transporting heavy goods, meeting the demands of the maritime shipping market...
At the end of May 2025, Hòa Phát Group continued to sign a contract to supply 1,000 container shells to VIMC Container Transport Joint Stock Company (VIMC Lines) – a member unit of Vietnam National Shipping Lines. This is the first contract between Hòa Phát and VIMC Lines and the third contract with Vietnam National Shipping Lines. The order is expected to be delivered starting from June 2025 to meet the peak operating demands of VIMC Lines.
In addition, Hòa Phát has signed an expanded container supply contract with Vinafco Sea Transport Joint Stock Company. According to the agreement, Hòa Phát will supply 750 container shells, with deliveries starting from August 2025. These containers will be put into operation to serve the existing container fleet and domestic transport routes that Vinafco is operating. Previously, this company had ordered 200 containers from Hòa Phát. According to Mr. Đinh Xuân Hưng, General Director of Vinafco Sea Transport Joint Stock Company, after a period of use, Hòa Phát’s products have operated stably and met practical exploitation requirements well, forming the basis for partners to continue placing new orders in larger quantities.
These new contracts continue to affirm Hòa Phát’s role in the high-quality container supply chain in Vietnam, while also demonstrating increasing trust from major domestic and international shipping companies. This is also a step forward in Hòa Phát’s logistics market expansion strategy, aiming for sustainable development and enhanced enterprise competitiveness.
