With advanced infrastructure, Phuoc An port on Thi Vai river - the largest port in Dong Nai province has attracted and welcomed the first cargo ship of the world's largest shipping line to dock.

Unblocking the flow of trade

Inaugurated and put into operation from the end of 2024, this is the first time a cargo ship of the world's largest shipping line has docked at Phuoc An port (Nhon Trach district, Dong Nai).

This is the M/V MSC BEIRA IV of the MSC container shipping line. This ship departed from Singapore, carrying more than 1,400 TEUs of goods in the fields of electronics, garments, and dyed fabrics.

According to Mr. Nguyen Duong Hoai, Deputy Director of Dong Nai Province Customs Department, Phuoc An port is built with modern infrastructure and is the largest in Dong Nai province.

Welcoming the container ship of the world's second largest shipping line at Phuoc An port, Dong Nai province is considered an important event, not only demonstrating the capacity and service ability of this port but also contributing to clearing the flow of trade, reducing pressure on other ports in the region.

Most equipment, vehicles, and management systems at the port use electricity instead of fossil fuels.

"After a long preparation period, Phuoc An port has welcomed large cargo ships, proving that the port's capacity is capable of serving large international transport ships. This is a great advantage in the commercial development of Dong Nai province in general, businesses located in the area and neighboring provinces. When the port welcomes large ships, it will open up the logistics supply chain of the region," said Mr. Hoai.

Attracting international ships from green governance

Mr. Truong Hoang Hai, General Director of Phuoc An Port Investment and Exploitation Petroleum Joint Stock Company, added that MSC's goods come from all countries in the world. Therefore, when the world's number one shipping company comes to Phuoc An port, it means that the port has connected to all regions around the world, opening up potential opportunities, optimizing transportation processes and reducing supply chain costs for businesses.

Mr. Truong Hoang Hai said that currently, our country's logistics costs are very high compared to the region. However, when a world-leading shipping company has placed its trust in Phuoc An port, the global circulation of goods will be guaranteed. At that time, logistics costs in Dong Nai province in particular and the southern region in general will be greatly reduced.

"Because when this number one shipping line brings goods, it means we have connected with all regions in the world, bringing the potential to expand economic relations and trade balance," Mr. Hai emphasized.

The reason why Phuoc An port can receive ships from the world's number one container shipping line, according to the representative of the investor and operator of Phuoc Hai port, is because this is a modern port with advanced infrastructure, oriented to develop according to the green and clean port management model. Accordingly, most of the equipment, mechanical means, and management systems at the port use electricity instead of fossil fuels. This is an inevitable trend and a common requirement of the whole world for economic and commercial activities.

According to the plan, Phuoc An port is divided into port sub-areas and logistics service sub-areas of 550 hectares. With a scale and operating capacity of 6 million TEUs (1 TEU is equivalent to a 20-foot container). In 2025, it is expected to reach 0.2 million TEUs, then gradually increase and will reach 1.2 million TEUs in 2026.

The port is divided into 3 construction phases, of which phase 1 has been completed, capable of receiving 60,000 DWT ships. Phase 2 is expected to be completed in 2026, with a total investment of nearly 28,000 billion VND, allowing for 100,000 DWT ships and phase 3 will be completed in 2027, with a total investment of nearly 20,000 billion VND.
